As a waitress, or as anyone who works for tips, it is guaranteed that every paycheck is going to be different. If the restaurant is slow, your paycheck is low. I don’t know about you, but for me when this happens, it can be pretty stressful. But it doesn’t have to be! Here are 3 ideas to earn some extra money and hopefully make payday a little less insane.
1: Donate Plasma or Participate in a Research Study
If you’re not afraid to have your blood drawn or to answer health questions about yourself, these are great for you. Donating plasma is overall pretty quick. It takes about an 1 1/2 to 2 hours. You just sit in a chair. While there, you can read or be on your phone. However, there are some restrictions on weight and each place has there own requirements on personal health, so before going make sure you look these up and can meet them.
Research studies on the other hand, can vary in different ways including levels of intrusiveness. Some are a quick physical and then you’re out the door while others require you to spend several nights with I.V.’s and checkups. Although research studies require you to become, as some say, “a human guinea pig,” they can pay anywhere from a hundred dollars to a couple thousand, so if you’re in need of quick cash, this could definitely do the trick.
Facilities can be found all across the country, which means no matter where you live you can always find one. Here are some places to start: National Institute of Health, J.B.R. Clinical Research, and Northern California Research. This is something I have done for awhile now and I have found it fun, not only because I get paid, but also I get to learn about medical terms and to even find out more about myself. It basically means you’re getting paid to go to the doctor.
2: Babysitting / Childcare
Babysitting makes a great little second job. It usually only takes a couple of hours and you can choose when and where you do it. The awesome thing about this is that there is always a need for childcare and you can set your own price! Most babysitters charge anywhere from $5 to $20 an hour depending on how many kids there are.
This is something I’ve been doing since I was eleven and the little extra money has come in handy many times. If you don’t know anyone with kids, you can check out these websites: Care.com, Sittercity.com, and the app Seeking Sitters. Just remember that some of these sites might require you to undergo a background check among other things to make sure parents feel safe with who they are choosing.
3: Become a Professional Driver
There are many companies such as Uber, Postmates, Doordash, and Lyft that pay you to drive. Some require you to pick up people while others require you to deliver food from place to place. These are really nice to do because you get to make your own schedule and essentially be your own boss.
Doing this, however, might mean getting out of your comfort zone and it also requires you to use your own gas. By the way, if you want a tip on how to save money on gas click here! But anyways, if you do it enough you can make really good money to the point where you won’t worry about the gas money. I have met many people who do this as there only job and are able to make a good living. It just depends how much time you are willing to put in.
I hope these ideas helped or maybe even sparked some new ones. Feel free to comment and let us know if you have tried any of these or what other ideas you would recommend. We would love to hear from you!
